Soapstone Creek Rendezvous: Fishing, Camping, Volunteering

Join Trout Unlimited staff and volunteers from the High Country Fly Fishers Chapter for a fun weekend of camping, fishing and volunteering - or just swing by for the volunteer day on Saturday - as we work together to restore Soapstone Creek, an important Provo River tributary following the devastation of the Yellow Lake Fire.
Working side-by-side with TU staff, the U.S. Forest Service and other partners, we will be installing beaver dam analogs, cutting and planting native willows and seeding the areas around the creek. This work will play an essential role in stabilizing the burned area, reducing ash and sediment flow into the creek and Provo River and improving future fire resiliency in the valley by increasing the wetlands around the creek.
This is a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, connect with fellow members, and make a tangible difference for our wild trout.
Whether you come for a full weekend and camp along the creek or just swing by on Saturday for a full day of work, including all streamside meals and a post-event party thanks to our sponsors, we hope you can join us for this rewarding weekend of conservation and community!
The weekend schedule is as follows:
Friday, Aug. 7
- All day - Optional: Boondock camping along U.S.F.S. 304 (Soapstone Creek Road - 40.546050, -111.004936)
Saturday, Aug. 8
- 8 a.m. - Check-in (Coffee & Snacks provided)
- 8:30 a.m. - Welcome & Overview
- 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. - Volunteer Stations (Beaver Dam Analog construction & Willow cutting)
- 12 - 1 p.m. - Lunch (Provided)
- 1-3:30 p.m. - Volunteer Stations (Willow Planting & Seeding)
- 3:30 - 7 p.m. - Dinner & Beer Garden
- 7 p.m. - Optional Fishing & Camping Continues
This special conservation event is a partnership of Trout Unlimited, High Country Fly Fishers Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Mayfly Outdoors and Coors Banquet as part of the Coors Banquet conservation partnership - raising funds for the Embrace A Stream grant program at Trout Unlimited.
