Schafer Creek Wood Placement Volunteer Day
Volunteers will be assisting the Grays Harbor Conservation District’s field crew with constructing wood jams called post-assisted log structures (PALs). Work will include hauling and carrying bundles and posts, assembling structures in the stream, using equipment like pneumatic post pounders and loppers, hiking on primitive trails, and wading the stream.
Contact: Alex Gufstason: (206) 572-0778 for more info on meeting location.
Carpooling to site is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED. :)
Why you should come: Its fun! This work is a lot of fun and gives new perspective to understanding our streams and restoration.
AND you will make a difference by putting wood back in this stream,
AND You will learn about this amazing restoration effort that’s a partnership between Grays Harbor Conservation District and Trout Unlimited, work in a remote headwater stream, and learn some new things along the way.
Volunteers should bring:
plenty of water
snacks and lunch
bug spray
sunscreen
good footwear to wade streams and walk on primitive trails (waders not necessary)
work gloves
and appropriate clothing (no shorts)
Work will be conducted in uneven terrain, construction is laborious, trails and roads are primitive.
