PSWOTF - Women’s Fishing Outing - Offut Lake, Olympia
Details
Join us in a joint fishing meetup with the Puget Sound Fly Fishers Club. We’ll meet at the WDFW boat launch on the west side of Offut Lake at 10:00 a.m. The lake was stocked with 800+ one-lb rainbow trout on September 29th so could be some great fishing! There is about 100' of bank available, but the best fishing will be from a watercraft. We'll have a couple of watercraft to try out...you'll need waders and boots and warm clothes.
Let us know via email if you need any gear for the event - rod + reel, nippers, flies, wading boots.
A few days prior to the event we will send out an email with a reminder and any changes that may have needed to be made. Please watch out for an email from pugetsoundwomenonthefly@gmail.com.
Cancellation - unfortunately, there isn’t a way to cancel on Event Groove. If you aren’t going to be able to make it, please either hit the “contact event organizer” or send us an email at pugetsoundwomenonthefly@gmail.com to let us know.

Below are common flies for Western Washington lakes. The best fly for the situation depends on a lot of factors so your best bet is to have an array of flies in your set. You'll want some heavy flies if you don't have a sinking line. Bead head flies, especially tungsten bead, will help get your flies down to the lake bottom, if that's where we're finding them. Call or go into your local fly shop to find out what has recently been working for the lake. Buying flies is always a great way to support your local fly shop!
Common Stillwater Flies:
-
Nymphs: Copper John, Pheasant Tail, Prince Nymph, Chironomids - scuds, too (although they're not nymphs)
- Wet flies: somethimes a soft hackle fished higher in the water column may also work
-
Emergers: Sparkle Midge, WD-40, Zebra midge
- Streamers: Balanced Leech, Wooly Buggers, bigger streamers like Dali Llamas for those big fish
-
Dries: Mayflies, Caddis, Stimulators, Humpy, Parachute Adams, Royal Wulff, Royal Coachman, Grasshopper, Ants
We keep as much as possible free to our participants; we do ask for a $5.00 ticket fee to help support the events and providing loaner equipment for folx who need it. If that is a challenge, please let us know - we don't want to present barriers to joining our events.
