The Little Cannon River is one of the best kept secrets in the Twin Cities Metro area. The trout population is not that large, but there are some huge browns in the river! One of the reasons it is a well-kept secret is that there has been no public access. That has changed now. A stretch of the river south of Sogn was purchased by the Trust for Public Land and turned over to the DNR which has turned it into an Aquatic Management Area. Although nothing has been finalized yet, MNTU and TCTU are looking at doing a large-scale habitat project on this property.
A dedication ceremony for the new AMA will be held on April 12th from 4 to 6 pm, and TCTU members are invited! Join Clean River Partners as they commemorate the conservation ethic and habitat contributions of local landowner Cara McCutchan Rodriguez. Hear from partners at the Trust for Public Land, Great River Greening, and the DNR on how to protect and restore habitat through the Outdoor Heritage Fund. This is also a wonderful opportunity to observe the ecology of this new preserve while enjoying refreshments and answering questions with diverse conservation professionals. Feel free to come early with your rod!
