Please join us in helping eradicate and stop the spread of wild parsnips. This type of event will be repeated over the next several years to fully eradicate the plants, so watch for follow-on days!
We need 10 volunteers
What Will We Be Doing
We will be cutting and collecting the flower heads of wild parsnips before they drop seeds.
Why Are We Doing This?
Wild parsnips are a nasty, invasive plant who's sap cause skin burns and negatively impacts wildlife. The area we will be working in has a large number of them and if not eradicated, they will spread impacting Trout Brook, a stream where extensive restoration work has been done by MNTU and Dakota Parks over the past several years.
The Plan
- Meet before the start time at the location (see map).
- We'll sign waivers, drink some coffee.
- Have a safety briefing, get set up and get to work.
- NOTE: the sap of wild parsnips causes skin burns-see dress requirement below.
What You Should Bring
- Dress: long sleeve shirt and long pants, chest waders if you have them.
- Water!
What TCTU Will Provide
- Rubber gloves for protection
- Bags for the flower heads
- Protective eyewear
- Loppers
- LUNCH after we're all done working!
