Guest Speaker:

Trout Unlimited Great Lakes Stream Restoration (TU GLSR) Program Manager, Chris Collier, has spent several years working to improve trout streams in and around NE WI's Great Lakes region. On April 2nd, he will join us to share this work (and more) in a presentation titled "Aquatic Organism Passage in Northern Wisconsin Trout Streams."

Presentation:

Below is a presentation summary provided by Chris:

"Aquatic organism passage, or fish passage, means making sure fish and other aquatic organisms can access all parts of a river that they require, including spawning areas and thermal refuges. Dams are the poster child of infrastructure that creates artificial passage barriers, and we often see these impacts highlighted with species like coastal salmon, or more locally, Lake Sturgeon. However, undersized road crossings (culverts and bridges) can have effects on fish passage that are equivalent to, or even greater than, those of large dams, and this greatly affects our in-stream trout species. Chris's presentation will provide an overview of the importance of fish passage for in-stream trout populations, why fish passage is a significant issue for Northwoods trout streams, and what TU has been working on to improve fish passage in northern Wisconsin."

We are so excited to have Chris join us !!
