Friends and Family Fishing Event on Hay Creek

Fish with us on Hay Creek, one of Minnesota's best trout streams.  We will be creating teams of anglers, assigning stretches of water to each team, and holding a low-key "fishing contest", followed by an awards ceremony and activities. Prizes will be awarded to the group with the youngest average age, oldest average age, most fish per angler, least fish per angler, biggest fish, smallest fish, any group that catches a brook trout, plus more prizes that we are keeping secret for now. 

Bring your family and friends, or come by yourself and we will assign you to a team.  We have fly fishing gear and a limited selection of waders and wading boots available to loan. The entry fee for adults is $15 until May 31st and $30 after that.  Tickets include a breakfast buffet and a drink ticket at the Hay Creek Saloon; youth under 18 attend for free!*  

Schedule:

7:00    Breakfast buffet 

8:00    Kickoff and team assignments

8:30     Go fishing with your team!

12:30   Return to the Saloon for lunch (food available for purchase, picnic tables outside if you’d like to bring a lunch)

1:30     Awards ceremony

2:30     Casting lessons, s’mores pit, and other activities.  In the evening, a bluegrass band will be playing!

The event formally ends at 2:30pm, but stay as long as you want afterwards to eat, drink, fish and socialize!  

Hay Creek has special regulations for a 4-mile posted section downstream of 325th Street, requiring artificial lures and flies only.  If you or your team members would like to fish with bait, we will assign you to a different stretch of stream.

* Youth 15 and under do not need a fishing license or trout stamp.  Youth ages 16-17 need a special $5 license but no trout stamp.
