Details
TCTU is expanding it's habitat action capabilities and as always, we need 5 volunteers!
We're now going to be going after wild parsnips with new tools we've built that we call Parsnip Killers (PKs). See the photo!
Why Are We Killing Wild Parsnips?
They are an invasive, poisonous plant that are actual functional riparian degraders by causing:
-
Increased erosion and sedimentation
-
Warmer water temperatures
-
Reduced habitat quality and food availability
-
Higher barriers to effective conservation work
What We Will Do
- Find 2nd year plants in flower
- Use the PKs to cut plants 2-3 inches below grade & drop the plants.
What To Bring
- Long pants
- Long sleeve shirt
- Hat
- Heavy work gloves
- Water!
What TCTU Will Provide
- A safety briefing
- PKs
- Nitrile gloves to wear under your heavy work gloves
- Post event lunch
Don't forget to check you email before you leave the house for any last minute details or cancelations.
