Join TCTU, our friends at the MN DNR and our sponsor Roof Drs (providing the post-work meal) in cleaning up this AMA.
Eagle Creek
Eagle Creek in Savage is the closest "fishable" trout stream to downtown Minneapolis. It is a beautiful spring-fed creek flowing into the Minnesota River, and supports a naturally-reproducing population of brown trout, including some trophies. We are working with the DNR to reintroduce brook trout. "Driftless Strain" brookies have been planted in the creek, and we held several events last year to clear beaver dams and improve stream flow to clear slit from the gravel beds needed for the brookies (and browns) to spawn.
Meanwhile, Eagle Creek needs a good cleanup. Last year on Earth Day we cleaned up 25 yards of trash, and over thirty tires. The creek looks much better, but there is still more trash to take care of! Please join us for a family-friendly event that promises to be a lot of fun, and make a real difference for the creek and its inhabitants.
The Details:
- Meet at the location at 9:00 AM.
- You'll check-in, sign waivers and get organized into work teams.
- Then you'll be guided in groups to different areas of Eagle Creek. Trash collected will be placed in a dumpster, w/TCTU & the DNR providing garbage bags.
- The event will be followed by a burger lunch, prepared by our expert chefs. Unfortunately, we cannot offer alternative meal options (vegetarian, etc.) this time.
- Bring gloves and boots, some areas along the stream will be wet. Depending on how warm it is, you may wish to bring knee or hip boots. We will have disposable gloves available. If you have one of those fancy handheld trash grabbers, bring that, too!
- We'll have some water available, but please bring your own water bottle if you have one.
- Families welcome! Kids need to be accompanied by parents/guardians
Special Requests! Please email Bob Luck at bob.luck@twincitiestu.org if you can help:
- Tow our Trailer: We are looking for somebody to tow the TCTU trailer! If you have a vehicle with a 2" ball capable of towing at least 3500 lbs, and you are willing to tow the trailer from Savage to Eagle Creek and back.
- Haul Trash Bags We are also looking for volunteers with a pickup truck who would be willing to haul trash bags to a central location on the creek.
Please register at least 48 hours before the event so we can get an accurate headcount for food!
Please check your email 24 hours before the event for news about cancelation!
