Eagle Creek is a designated stream for "Minnesota Driftless" Brook Trout, running through Minnesota's first established AMA. TCTU has assisted with removing invasive vegetation from 4.5 acres along the creek. These improvements and stream partnerships benefit habitat for brook and brown trout and other wildlife. But we are just getting started!
We invite you to join us to clear buckthorn (an invasive species) and reseed the banks with native prairie grasses on Saturday, April 1st. We will meet in the parking lot at 8401 Eagle Creek Parkway in Savage, and proceed down a trail into the Eagle Creek valley. After we finish working, TCTU cooks will be serving burgers at the parking lot. Volunteers are advised to dress for the weather, wear sturdy work boots, and bring leather gloves. There will be extra work gloves and safety glasses if needed. Please register at least 24 hours in advance so that we can get an accurate headcount.
When you register for the event, you will see a question asking you which role(s) you'd like to perform. If you are interested in applying herbicide (and we do especially need volunteers for this!), we will send you a link for a short online course that is required to apply herbicide (21-minute video followed by a quiz).
We are also looking for somebody to tow the TCTU trailer! If you have a vehicle with a 2" ball capable of towing at least 3500 lbs, and you are willing to tow the trailer from Savage to Eagle Creek and back, please email steve.kaukola@twincitiestu.org
