TCTU invites volunteers to clear buckthorn (an invasive species) in the Eagle Creek State Aquatic Management Area (AMA). Most of the buckthorn is relatively large and will need to be cut with chainsaws, and piled along the stream bank. Volunteers may park in the lot at 8401 Eagle Creek Parkway in Savage, and proceed down a trail into the Eagle Creek valley. Eagle Creek is a designated stream for "Minnesota Driftless" Brook Trout, running through Minnesota's first established AMA. It is one of four restored trout streams in the Twin Cities area. At least two certified chainsaw operators will be needed. Following the 9AM to 12 PM shift, TCTU cooks will be serving burgers at the parking lot. If enough volunteers are interested in working longer, we will continue work into the afternoon. Volunteers are advised to dress for the weather, wear sturdy work boots, and bring leather gloves. COVID vaccination is recommended, but not required. Please register at least 24 hours in advance so that we can get an accurate headcount!
We are looking for somebody to tow the TCTU trailer! If you have a vehicle with a 2" ball capable of towing at least 3500 lbs, and you are willing to tow the trailer from Woodbury to Eagle Creek and back, please email steve.kaukola@twincitiestu.org
