We at the Cumberland Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited feel very excited to have Ben Hayes, Director of the Watershed Sciences and Engineering (WSE) Program at Bucknell University, sharing his presentation “A Century of Stream Restoration: What can we learn and what does the future hold?” at our chapter meeting this coming Wednesday, October 19th, 7 PM, in person at Bosler library (158 W High St, Carlisle, PA 17013). We are inviting all of you to join us for his remote presentation which you can watch with us at Bosler Library or remotely at the following Zoom meeting link.
We first saw Professor Hayes' present “A Century of Stream Restoration: What can we learn and what does the future hold?” at the Keystone Coldwater Conference last winter and were struck by how engaging a speaker he was. His research synthesizes information on over 5,300 stream restoration projects recorded across the Commonwealth spanning the past 100 years. The summary of this research offers an extraordinary perspective on the history and evolution of thinking and techniques surrounding stream project work and offers some critical lessons for those of us who are interested in improving our understanding of the mistakes of the past and learning about applying new, emerging process-based restoration approaches to our conservation and restoration projects.
Though we don't normally reach out to the broader conservation community to announce our meeting presentations, this one offers such valuable history and lessons about stream improvement projects and watershed conservation generally that we felt it IMERATIVE to let as many of our partners and concerned community members know about it as we could! Please share opportunity with your memberships, students and friends. We hope you will be able to join us in benefitting from this presentation.
