Come and learn everything you need to know to create your own western flyfishing adventure a (long) day's drive from your front door. We will first discuss wade fishing and backpacking opportunities for trout in the Greater Yellowstone region. We will dive deep into four specific wadeable streams with great dry fly fishing to 15-20"+ trout. These streams have incredible beauty, wildlife, and fishing. You will learn about the seasons, gear, hatches, and locations to fish this incredible area without a boat. Next we will discuss the backpacking opportunities in the Beartooth Mountains, home to 300+ alpine trout lakes. Solitude, rugged wilderness, and a chance at big trout - what could be better? If you have ever dreamed of backpacking to an alpine lake teaming with trout, we'll provide information on routes, gear, and techniques so you can make that dream come true.
More about Mike: Mike has been angling for trout his entire life.. He has logged hundreds of days fishing the NE corner of Yellowstone including 30+ backpacking trips to the Beartooths as a solo hiker and leading friends. He has also backpacked numerous other trout fishing destinations across the Rocky Mountain west, Alaska, and Canada. Mike is a lifetime TU member and serves on the TCTU board as chapter secretary.
In-person participants are invited to join us for social time and food/drink (on your own dime) from 5 pm onward.
