Details
Sea-run coastal cutthroat trout in northern Puget Sound, though beloved by many local anglers, are not particularly well understood. There are gaps in established scientific information and several questions yet to be answered. Improving our knowledge can improve our management and stewardship of these incredible fish. Fortunately, our friends in fisheries conservation are working hard to find those answers.
Join North Sound Trout Unlimited for a special presentation from Greg Shimek, the executive director of the Coastal Cutthroat Coalition, and James Losee, Senior Wild Fish Manager with the Wild Salmon Center. They will overview a new study they are conducting in Samish Bay to tag fish in order to monitor their habitat usage throughout the bay, with a particular eye for clarifying the relationship between aquaculture and cutthroat movement behaviors.
The event is at the Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve The presentation starts at 6:30. Parking at the reserve is limited and carpooling is strongly encouraged. We will have some snacks available, but there is otherwise no food available at this venue. For those looking to make a day of it, check-out the reserve's Breazeale Interpretive Center (open until 4pm) before heading a few minutes up the road to Edison for some pre-event dinner (we like Terramar, who has hosted NSTU in the past!).
