Wylie Brook
Town of Coventry, New York
Chenango County - Tributary of the Susquehanna
Trout Unlimited, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Services, NYS DEC, and the Town of Coventry are excited to welcome volunteers out for our first Wylie Brook Tree Planting Event! Trout Unlimited and our partners have been working diligently to improve habitat and reconnect this unique population of Eastern Brook trout found in Wylie Brook, an important spawning tributary of the Susquehanna River. More than 5 barriers to brook trout passage have been removed and replaced with properly sized culverts and road crossing structures in just a few years. In addition to these efforts to improve connection, we are also focused on opportunities for climate-conscious streambank stabilization at specific reaches within the watershed.
Our first restoration project on Wylie Brook is all complete and has been seeded and mulched, ready for a healthy installation of native trees and THAT is where you come in! We'll be on site at 9 AM on October 5th with hot coffee, water, snacks, plenty of shovels, a few hundred trees and a gameplan for the day's work. We ask that you join us with clothes and gloves ready for work along with a reusable water bottle or beverages of your own.
Got a question? This event will be hosted by Asia Rose, one of TU's New York Field Technicians working in the watershed. Send her an email with your question at asia.rose@tu.org .
*Please note, this site is on private property and a final address will be sent only to those who register to volunteer.*
