October Woolly Buggers Kids Fishing Club Meeting

Join us for the October meeting of the Woolly Buggers Kids Fishing Club!

Please note that this month we are meeting on the THIRD Tuesday instead of the second Tuesday due to a scheduling conflict with IDFG. We plan to return to our normal schedule for the remainder of the year in November.

This is our first indoor meeting back after summer break, so parents, please plan to stick around at the beginning as we work on completing waivers and registration and cover membership details.

For new members, we enter through the south door adjacent to the MK Nature Center.

5:30–6:00: Social time. Woolly Buggers and adults can peruse the fly shop (bring cash if you would like to make purchases, flies $.25 and boxes usually $1-2), get to know each other, and complete any necessary housekeeping and paperwork.

6:00: Presentation begins promptly.

7:30: Meeting wraps up.

Parents are encouraged to stick around and help. Our program runs entirely on volunteers, many of whom learn alongside their children. However, drop-off is totally acceptable, too.

This Month's Topic: Trout & Char Spawning

This month we will learn about and review the timing and biology of trout and char spawning and how it relates to fall fishing. We will also learn to tie the infamous egg pattern! Advanced tyers can learn how to add yolk spots, tie multiple sizes, and experiment with a selection of colors.

Even if you already know about trout spawning, it is always good to review the details and learn some tricks for how spawning may affect the choices you make while fishing during different seasons. We will also discuss how to ethically target—or avoid targeting—these species at various times.

Tickets are free, but registration is required to ensure we have enough equipment for everyone.
