Details
Woolly Buggers Kids Fishing Club Meeting
This Month's Topic: we will explore the history of Japanese Tenkara fly fishing and learn how to tie a traditional Japanese Kebari fly.
Learn more about…
Cherry Trout (Yamame) and White-Spotted Char (Iwana) that are native to Japan
How Tenkara fly fishing is similar to Western fly fishing and what makes it unique
How to tie a Kebari fly and techniques for fishing it effectively
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about Japanese fly fishing from Shin Ishima, a Japanese river guide and Brian and Morgan Peck who fished with Shin earlier this year in the mountains of Japan.
Guest Speakers:
Shin Ishima, a river guide in Takayama Japan, will be joining us via Zoom to talk about traditional Japanese fly fishing and fly tying.
Brian Peck, our camp cook, is bringing some Tenkara rods from Japan and an assortment of Kebari flies from the oldest fly shop in the world (Meboso Hachirobei Shoten in Kanazawa, Japan that has been operating since 1575).
Morgan Peck, a former Woolly Buggers president, will talk about his experience Tenkara fishing in Japan.
For new members, we enter through the south door adjacent to the MK Nature Center.
5:30–6:00: Social time. Woolly Buggers and adults can peruse the fly shop (bring cash if you would like to make purchases, flies $.25 and boxes usually $1-2), get to know each other, and complete any necessary housekeeping and paperwork.
6:00: Presentation begins promptly.
7:30: Meeting wraps up.
Parents are encouraged to stick around and help. Our program runs entirely on volunteers, many of whom learn alongside their children. However, drop-off is totally acceptable, too.
Tickets are free, but registration is required to ensure we have enough equipment for everyone.
