The Rimrock Project is within the Upper Deschutes Wild and Scenic Corridor and is a phase of Trout Unlimited’s larger efforts for the Deschutes River. This phase of the project focuses on 1 mile of river, 6 water access points, and improving the recreation experience and habitat along the Deschutes River Trail. Heavy visitor use has created many user pathways to access the river. These user trails harden the ground, reduce vegetation, cause riverbank erosion and sedimentation, and reduce the natural appearance of the area. As recreation continues to grow in our region, we want to help provide recreation but also sustain the important habitat we all share.

Working with Deschutes National Forest, we will enhance recreational access and protect important sections of habitat along the Deschutes River from the Rimrock Trailhead to several sites along the Deschutes River. We will gather at the interpretive signs at the Rimrock Trailhead for a quick orientation and then take a walking tour to better understand the project and tackle small needs along the way. Volunteers will receive a project tour, dive into some stewardship activities, and take a lunch break next to the river. We will wrap up by 2pm back at the trailhead. If you are interested in joining us, please register for the day to support our planning, as we have limited space for this volunteer project.  Staff will follow up with directions and final details needed.

This project has received generous support from the Bend Sustainability Fund. The Bend Sustainability Fund invests in projects that protect, steward, and create sustainable recreational resources and outdoor experiences in Bend's backyard.
