TUNB Spring Chapter Event
Details
Our next (and final for the Spring) Chapter Event will be next Thursday, May 14th at 6:30 PM, and will be held at Rod & Rivet on Franklin Avenue in Des Moines.
Our featured speaker will be Tyler Stubbs with the IA DNR, and he’ll be presenting about the DNRs Community Fishing Program. Many of us don’t get to spend as much time in the Driftless as we like, and don’t want to overpressure our favorite waters, so Tyler’s presentation will highlight the terrific fishing opportunities we have right in our own backyards and neighborhoods! We look forward to seeing you there!
Following Tyler’s presentation we have the business of electing officers for the coming year. If you are interested in seeking a formal position or in supporting the candidate of your choice, this is your chance to make your voice heard!
Calling all Volunteers! Once again TUNB will host an introduction to Fly Fishing and Fly Tying at the Johnston Public Library, Saturday June 6th from 1-4. We’re seeking volunteers who are willing to teach basic fly casting and fly tying lessons to participants, young and old. We’ve had great success the last few years with this event and it’s a great opportunity to generate interest in the Chapter, our mission and conservation through fly fishing! If you are interested and willing please respond!
Another permanent fishing access has come available! You may have heard that our friends at the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation (INHF) have announced a project to protect 192 acres along Spring Branch Creek in Delaware County adjacent to the Manchester Fish Hatchery. In addition to the fantastic trout fishing opportunities, the Spring Branch Creek Project also hosts a wonderful woodland portion with many natural features, fauna and wild animals and birds. Trout Unlimited North Bear will be helping fundraise for this unique opportunity, and will have more details coming soon on how you can support.
