Join us Tuesday, June 1st at 2 P.M. for the latest installment of Trout Habitat Tuesday! This week, we will be installing conifer revetments along the banks of the Norwalk River to help combat erosion in Wilton's Merwin Meadows Park. Each winter we host a "Trees For Trout" drive where we collect old Christmas trees for use in habitat restoration projects. Conifer revetments are a fun project that make a difference in tightening up the stream channel. By installing the trees in areas of excessive erosion, they slow down the current and collect sediment to help rebuild the banks. After a couple years, we return to the revetment sites and plant trees so that the roots lock up and harden the new soil. When its all done, you'd have no idea you're standing on a pile of old Christmas trees!
We will provide the trees, rope, anchors, hammers, and driving rods. All you need to bring is a pair of gloves and some water!
