Rhode Island TU and RIDEM Fish & Wildlife partner to improve stream and river habitat. They collect used Christmas trees in January and store them until Summer when they are installed in areas with wild brook trout. Volunteers use the donated trees to build structures that helps rivers and streams rebuild their own banks. This helps to restore habitat with minimal disruption to nature.
Volunteers are needed to work with RIDEM staff hauling trees to the water and installing them at locations designated for stream revetment. Waders, gloves and bug spray are advised. Lunch will be provided.
Please contact John Genovesi @rhodyflyangler@gmail.com - T4T in subject line - if you plan to attend.
