Thames Valley Trout Unlimited Chapter Meeting
Jay Crowley’s presentation tonight is about canoeing, camping, exploring, and fly fishing the wilderness area known as Quetico Provincial Park in Atikokan, Ontario, Canada. The Park is located above the State of MN. The U.S. side of the wilderness area is known as the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.
Quetico has about 2,000 campsites, over 600 lakes and covers over 1.1 million acres of wilderness, 1,832 square miles. There are no signs in the park to guide you, so truly a wilderness experience with survival skills required.
The U.S. side of the wilderness area is known as the Boundary Waters. This wilderness area is approximately 1,090,000 million acres, accessed through Ely, MN, and other entry points. The Boundary Waters is a federally designated wilderness area in Northeast MN, in the Superior National Forest.
Both the Quetico and Boundary Waters are primitive, rugged, extremely remote wilderness adventure opportunities for hiking, canoeing, backpacking, and extraordinary fly fishing for lake trout, walleye, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, bluegill, and northern pike. Some lakes do hold brook trout and sturgeon.
Jay will talk about trip planning, wilderness experiences, fly fishing, and the conservation of these extraordinary natural phenomena.
