Shad Night 2024
Join Us on Wednesday, February 21 at 7:30
The Potomac is replenished by near record winter precipitation and shad will soon enter the river. Are you ready? We invite you to join us online once again for our annual Shad Night meeting on Wednesday, February 21 at 7:30. Please mark your calendars; the Zoom login instructions will be included with ticket confirmation.
We are happy to welcome back Jim Cummins to speak about the current state of the American shad run on the Potomac. Jim is retired from the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin, where he spearheaded a successful effort to restore American shad after the fish had all but disappeared in the 1980’s. American shad have since been better appreciated and designated DC’s official fish. Matt Jargowsky of Maryland DNR, one of last year's speakers, will also be on hand to provide an update on 2023 shad abundance.
Of course, we’ll also take a look at the great shad fishing right here on our doorstep. This year we want to hear from you ahead of the meeting to better address your preparation. We’ll run as many preselected questions as possible by a group of grizzled veterans, several of whom we expect to join us as panelists. Hickory shad or American shad, boat or bank, fly or spin: We will do our best to get you some great advice. Don't miss it!
