Royal River – Sparhawk Mill Dam & Maine Fly Company Excursion: A CX3 Portland Event
Maine Fly Company honors our state’s fly-fishing culture and heritage through the quality craftsmanship of our small batch rods. Our rods are carefully built by hand here in Maine by a select group of master craftsmen; each one-of-a-kind batch is named for one of our stunning waterways, reflecting their colors, beauty, and endurance.
For this environmental excursion travel a short 20 minutes from Portland to the banks of the historic Royal River to visit the newest small batch rod manufacturer in Maine! You get a tour of Maine Fly’s new manufacturing facility right on the Royal in the historic Sparhawk Mill from founder Jeff Davis. Cast small batch, hand built rods and learn about Trout Unlimited‘s successful partnerships to bring the Royal to where it is today. Through a combination of land conservation, dam removal and clean up- anglers can catch multiple cold water species in the Royal from stocked brookies and browns to sea run browns, the occasional “salter” and, of course, plentiful stripers!
TU partners the Royal River Alliance will participate and be available for questions about restoration on the Royal and larger efforts at preserving the Casco Bay ecosystem.
While the talk and activities at Sparhawk Mill are free and open to all, lunch requires either an “all inclusive” registration to CX3 or the purchase of lunch ($10) with registration for this specific CX3 event here.
