Please join us for the premier of Rooted Waters: A story of Indigenous and Hispanic Youth Fly Fishing

We are excited to announce the upcoming release Rooted Waters, a short film that shares the story of The Indigenous and Hispanic Youth Fly Fishing Camp which provides space for cultural roots and generational healing through fly fishing in northern New Mexico. The camps were started in 2022 by Vidal Gonzales in partnership with Trout Unlimited. These camps bring the joy of fly fishing to underserved youth from Indigenous and Hispanic communities across northern New Mexico. But fly fishing is only a small part of what the youth and their families get out of the camps - the program connects participants with their ancestral lands and traditions, and creates a community of support for the next generation of cultural and conservation leaders. As Vidal puts it "Fly fishing is a tool, not the end goal. It's a way to teach and pass on traditional knowledge, connect youth to their cultural landscapes, and instill a sense of community and stewardship."

With the support of organizational partners, community members, donors and leaders we have been able to create a unique story that is based in northern New Mexico. We hope Rooted Waters can help create spaces for healing, cultural and traditional connection through fly fishing. The Indigenous and Hispanic Youth Fly Fishing Camp hopes to find long-lasting donors and support to sustain the program for future generations.

100% of ticket sales benefit the camps; you're support is much needed and appreciated!

Directed by Treston Chee, Rooted Waters documents the impact that the camps have had and how they hope to grow through stunning footage of trout streams in New Mexico and interviews with participants, their families, and the guides who make it all possible.

The camps are made possible with support from the Outdoor Equity Fund, the Truchas Chapter of Trout Unlimited, New Mexico Land Grant Council, REI, UA Local 412 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, New Mexico Trout, and more.
