Ron Belak - April 2024 CCTU Meeting
Ron Belak is a long-time member of Trout Unlimited and an award-winning author and photographer from Evergreen, Colorado.
He has fished the Colorado backcountry as an adult for 40 years, fishing over 600 different high lakes and reservoirs.
Over the last 30 years he has written about 100 magazine articles, principally for Colorado Outdoors magazine.
Educated as a scientist with degrees in geology and coursework in the biological sciences, he approaches fly fishing from an analytical perspective, trying to
decide what strategies, techniques, equipment and patterns work and what is the scientific basis for why they work.
He will concentrate on high lakes and reservoirs between the south border of Rocky Mountain National Park and Highway 285 on both sides of the Continental Divide.
His talk includes the Indian Peaks, Mount Blue Sky (Mount Evans) and James Peak wilderness areas, as well as other public and private lands above 7,000 feet.
Ron will discuss how to fish these waters and cover characteristics of a good sample of the over 90 Front Range still waters.
Most of these waters are accessed by short but steep hikes, and a few are motor-vehicle accessible.
