FOUR SHORT PHOTOSLIDE STORIES — from around the U.S. & right here on the Cape — where some rather stupid mistakes were being made, and Citizens were needed to protect what government could not.
St. Lawrence River icebreaker ships blasting fish 20 feet into
the air.
• Pebble Mine in Alaska digging gold and poisoning 200 miles of
salmon river.
• A federal agency with 68 dams on a Tennessee river, blocking
the last best flowing stretch, for a land swindle.
• Here on the Cape, a once-beautiful stream’s last remaining
brook trout threatened with extinction.

Cape Cod Community College, April 13th noon, in the Lorusso Technology Solarium

Along with Cape Cod Trout Unlimited, the Community College will host a photoslide session with Zygmunt Pläter, who teaches environmental protection law at Boston College. The event is open to the public—no registration is required. Working with local activists and his students, Professor Plater has argued and won environmental cases, including a pioneering wildlife case in the Supreme Court. Pläter will present four short environmental stories where citizen action and outrage
turned the tide in the protection of our flowing waters. A member of the Cape Cod Trout Unlimited, Zyg has seen first-hand how citizens have stood up against lobbyists, big business, and the government.

A Trout Unlimited expert will be there to give a quick lesson on how to cast a fly — and offering sign-ups for an upcoming hands-on outdoor session for learning to fly-fish. Refreshments and Pizza will be provided.
