CCTU partners with City of Lakewood Parks to restore Bear Creek riparian areas by planting trees and shrubs.
CCTU provides funds to City of Lakewood Parks to purchase trees, shrubs and supplies for this activity.
CCTU provides the volunteers on Earth Day to tackle this project.
City of Lakewood Parks manages the project and guides the volunteers.
This is always a makes-you-feel-good event!
Benefits of trees in riparian areas:
1) Provide shade to control growth of aquatic plants,
2) Keep the river cool during warm summers, reducing risk of fish kills,
3) Stabilize riverbanks and reduce erosion, and
4) Intercept and reduce runoff of sediment/nutrients to the river, improving water quality.
