Dear Massachusetts Trout Unlimited Members


Spring is upon us and hence the 35th Annual PVTU Banquet is only a bit more than two weeks away. Membership support during our recent Swift River Embrace-a-Stream campaign was phenomenal and placed us at the top fundraiser among EAS projects in the Country.  But there is much more we need to accomplish in support of cold water fisheries in our region. That is the compelling need behind our Banquet, which is our major annual fund raiser.


The Swift River Project will begin installing PIT Tag sensors in mid-May. Fish sampling and insertion of Pit Tags will follow in the weeks after. We are looking also into a genetic component to the Project, for not only the lower Swift River but the tributaries to the Swift and Quabbin. The Westfield River is another watershed to which we should be paying much more attention. Our Chapter’s support for programs such as Casting for Recovery, fly tying lessons, and other worthwhile family and angler education efforts all depend on our success with the Banquet.


The Banquet is also a wonderful event at which to catch up with old friends and make new ones. The hall is spacious and well ventilated. The four-course meal and sit down service are always excellent and the number of raffle prizes and auction items is spectacular.
