We are hosting (another!) Smoky Mountains trip. This time, we are basing the trip from the Smokemont campground near Cherokee, NC. This campsite has both tent and camper/RV, and site reservations are first-come-first serve (OMTU will not be reserving sites). The trip leader (Evan) will be staying at site D31 in the back of the campground near the trailhead going up Bradley Fork. Expect cool weather for this late October trip, and most of the fall colors will be gone (as well as the leaf-peeping tourists!).

Fishing:

This is a great time to catch all 3 trout species, within just a couple of miles of the campsite, and Bradley Fork that runs through the campground is one of the streams in the Smokies where anglers can achieve a grand slam. Fish can be caught on dry flies when water is low, but this is also the time of year that streamer fishing really starts to heat up.

Gear:

We recommend bringing a 7'6" 3 wt for some of the smaller waters such as the upper reaches of Bradley Fork or up to a 10' 5 wt for tight-line nymphing the largest body of water, the Oconaluftee River. An 8' or 9' 3, 4, or 5 wt will do an excellent job covering all bases.

Need gear? Let us know and we'd be happy to provide boots, waders, or fly rods or flies for you and your company.

Logistics:

Participants should make their own camping reservations through Recreation.gov.

Bring your own food & water, fishing gear (or we can supply gear upon advanced request), and TN or NC fishing license to fish inside GSMNP.
