Oak Brook Chapter’s Spring Coldwater River Watershed (MI) macro invertebrate survey and outing.

Come on out to Western Michigan, have a donut, capture and inventory some extraordinary aquatic insects, and then go fishing as Oak Brook Trout Unlimited continues its long term macro invertebrate survey on the Coldwater River and its tributaries.
The macro invertebrate survey takes approximately 4 hours. After getting organized at the meeting point, we divide into small teams to seine the bugs at various sites, then return to the meeting location to inventory the insects collected. Our data aids in planning future restoration projects and is uploaded to a statewide database. If you are new to this type of survey, it is an enjoyable & educational way to learn about the trout food chain. Your experienced TU colleagues will be happy to show you what to do.

Required: Waders and weather-appropriate clothing.
Fishing: The Coldwater River is located approximately 15 miles southeast of Grand Rapids, MI. Many volunteers pay to stay in local hotels in Grand Rapids or camp at the Tyler Creek Country Club Friday and/or Saturday nights to take advantage of the fine fishing in the Coldwater itself or on the nearby Rogue an/or Muskegon Rivers.
