NSTU is calling on our creative friends up in North Sound to step up with our first ever Public Lands Bumper Sticker contest! We are accepting submissions throughout the month of November. Submit your own original image for consideration!

You may be thinking "Land?! I thought you guys were all about water...." Well, imagine if you will... stealing away a day from work to fish, anticipating this escape all week long. The restoration and peace that comes only with time spent in your temple. Elation at the rare luck of an empty trailhead parking lot. And then, your heart falls through your feet as you notice the sign. POSTED…

Although many of us have experienced the loss of a cherished river access, few can imagine a world without our public lands. Yet their future, especially at the federal level, has never felt more tenuous. Rolling back the Roadless Rule despite overwhelming public support for protections. Starving management agencies of the funds needed to effectively manage public lands. Proposing to destroy wilderness area protections anywhere within 100 miles of a national border. It feels overwhelming because it is…they are counting on us being distracted or demoralized. Yet we know it is the public who holds the power. This summer, Americans across the country spoke up loudly for public lands and prevented widespread sell-offs from becoming law.

Protecting our public lands and waterways falls on all of us. Rivers need champions, and champions need to show up in ways big and small. And even small things can do big things. Consider the humble bumper sticker. Like caddis in a blizzard hatch, they alight on every surface. Truck toppers and coolers. Insulated mugs and boat gunnels. They tell us who you are and where you’ve been. What you’re willing to fight for. Picture the fishiest rig in your mind's eye and tell us there isn’t a PEBBLE MINE sticker with a bright red slash across it… Now picture your own design right next to it.

This is an opportunity to make your mark! We are accepting submissions throughout the month of November. Submit your own original image for consideration. The only requirements are that:

  • Your submission must be connected to protecting access to public lands or waterways.
  • Your submission should fit on a bumper sticker (think a 10”x3” rectangle or 5”x3” oval).
  • Your submission should ideally be in good taste (although you can submit questionable designs by adhering them directly to the back of our North Sound president’s car…).

We have prizes for the top three submissions, as voted on by the NSTU board. Bring your best game and potentially walk away with:

  • A North Sound T.U. t-shirt.
  • A North Sound T.U. hoodie.
  • A $75 gift certificate to The Confluence Fly Shop in Bellingham, WA.

We will also do a print run of the winning sticker, having them available for sale at future NSTU events. Enter your submission before December 1 here!
