“DIY Fly Fishing in Alaska” presentation is about how to plan and execute a trip to Alaska on your own. Kevin McIntyre will explore the motivation and planning tools that will make your trip a success and will cover various fish species caught and methods used. Whether you want to drive, fly & drive or camp, information will be provided on places to fish, planning resources, tips & tricks, route planning, road conditions and much more. This presentation will hopefully motivate you to visit and fly fish in Alaska. Information provided is from a personal 2 month trip in July and Aug, 2025.

About the presenter:

Kevin McIntyre has been living in Boise for more than 35 years. After learning to fish with his grandfather using traditional methods around California, he took a long hiatus from fishing. 10 years ago, Kevin went on a week-long backpacking trip into the Idaho backcountry to meet up with some friends who had flown in. His friend introduced him to fly fishing and after that first cast and a 20” cutthroat, Kevin’s love for the sport was ignited and he’s never looked back.

Over the last 10 years, Kevin has been making up for lost time. He enjoys fly fishing in all types of water; small streams, rivers and lakes. He can be found exploring new and old “fishy” waters in neighboring states and as far away as Alaska and Baja. Kevin enjoys researching new places to fish and visit and frequently travels with his trusty fishing partner, Rocky, his Mini Bernedoodle.

Kevin is currently in the process of completing the Western Native Trout Challenge and can be found on the water 50 – 75 days a year. He is a Trout Unlimited 2x Lifetime Member and a Stream Guardian. He also spends time with the Idaho2Fly (an Idaho Men’s Cancer Support Organization) as a volunteer and participant.
