Music City Trout Unlimited "Trout and the Stream" family learning event

Join Music City Trout Unlimited on May 3rd for an immersive family "Trout & The Stream" education morning on the scenic banks of the Elk River. 

Parent(s) or legal guardian(s) must be in attendance with child participant(s) for the entirety of the program. Thank you, Music City Trout Unlimited 

This hands-on program invites students ages 5-17 to become river scientists as they study trout, lifecycles, and ecology. They will conduct water quality tests for dissolved oxygen and turbidity, followed by a macroinvertebrate kick-sample to calculate the Biotic Index and learn the art of "matching the hatch" by comparing live insects to artificial flies. Participants: please, wear clothes and shoes that can get wet as we will be doing shallow wading in the river.  

The day concludes with a guided stewardship walk alongside MCTU members and a reflective lunch by the water to empower the next generation of anglers and conservationists.

After the close of the day participants will also have the opportunity to learn and practice casting and rigging using fly rods provided by MCTU. 

This is a free event, though pre-registration is required to ensure we have enough equipment and lunch for everyone. Families are welcome participants need to 5-17 years old.
