Metolius River Stewardship Day
As the fall rains begin, it is a great chance to do some planting along the river, and work along the trail as the dust will start to settle and plants will prepare for a winter break. Please join us on October 28th from 10am to 2:30pm for a volunteer day to help care for the trail we all use, and the important habitat along the Metolius River.
Our volunteer day will be focused on a couple key needs for this year. First, many of us that frequent the river have noticed holes in the trail, that can quickly turn into a safety hazard. We will tackle work on one of the holes in the trail, which will give us a great chance to assess if a beaver tunnel is connected to the conditions we discover, and we can craft a solution to make sure the public can safely walk down the trail. Second, we will continue our work to protect the habitat next to the trail and river, and we will prioritize erosion problems that could impact the river, and we will plant native species in improved habitat to support the river for the future.
This will be another fun day of collaboration in support of the Metolius, with guidance and leadership from Friends of Metolius, Trout Unlimited, Deschutes Trails Coalition, and the Deschutes National Forest, and we sure hope you can join us. Please RSVP by October 20th to help our planning. We will send out a final reminder with our meeting location and an updated list of what to bring and the sites that we will improve.
