Fly Fishing outings are back! Join GGA legend Bill Frangos on Saturday March 13th at Riverbottom Park in Montrose. Bring your gear and your friends!
The Uncompahgre River
I am always surprised when talking to other anglers about their fishing outings, how many
anglers discount waters that run right through town. Waters like the Arkansas River through
Salida, the Animas through Durango and yes, even the Uncompahgre through Montrose
provide opportunities to enjoy a day or a few hours of quality fishing just minutes from the
restaurants and local shops available in our towns.
The city of Montrose along with the Colorado Department of Wildlife and several local
businesses and non-profit organizations actually planned and modelled our community
around the river to be enjoyed by those who live in or visit Montrose. Parks, walking /biking
trails, dog parks, an amphitheater and sports/recreation opportunities are all located along
the Uncompahgre River through town. Fishing opportunities include rainbow, cutthroat
and brown trout along the approximately eight miles of public water through the city. Come
discover (or rediscover) the Uncompahgre with members of the Gunnison Gorge Anglers
on Saturday March 14th. The fishing outing will commence at Riverbottom park at 10:00 am
where we will briefly discuss some river issues, wader up, partner up, grab some swag,
snacks and head out for some time on the water. We will fish until 2:00 pm and meet-up
again to share some stories and lies about how our day was spent.
