The Berkshire National Fish Hatchery is a cold-water aquaculture facility spanning 160 acres in Berkshire County, located in northern New Marlborough, Massachusetts. In addition to its vital role in fish conservation, the Hatchery features hiking trails for visitors to explore.
The Hatchery plays a key role in restoring lake trout populations in the Lower Great Lakes, providing multiple strains of lake trout eggs as part of the National Brood stock Program. These efforts are supported by partners such as the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Great Lakes Fishery Commission, and the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.
With the help of the Friends of the Berkshire National Fish Hatchery, they also raise native Brook Trout and Rainbow Trout for local stocking, youth and veteran fishing events, and educational programs. Additionally, they host six fishing derbies each year for kids 13 and under, giving young anglers a chance to experience the joy of fishing!.
