Details

This trip is open to member of EJTU and non-members. We will meet at 7:00 am on November 7, 2026 to fish for striped Bass or whatever the ocean has to offer. Users with either conventional tackle or fly tackle are welcome. For conventional tackle: 10-11ft surf rod rated for 3/4oz-2oz of weight; 4000-5000 spinning reel; 35lb. braided line with a 20lb. monofilament or fluorocarbon leader; Metal spoons, metal lip swimmers, hard plastic crankbaits and poppers, soft plastic paddle tail lures, bucktails between 3/4oz-1.5oz and glide baits should work, as Bunker are running right now.
For fly tackle: 9ft-10ft. 8-10wt fly rod; 8-10wt. fly reel with 8-10wt. fly line. You can use a tapered leader or straight monofilament or fluorocarbon leader any of these with a 20 lb. tippet; Clouser minnows, Lefty's Deceivers, Sparkle Minnows, soft sand eel, Beast Fleyes or any large-profile baitfish imitations should work as well.
Striper should be feeding up for their fall migration to the southern coast and warmer waters.
If you have not been to Gateway National Seashore at Sandy Hook, you are missing a beautiful sight. It is a truly wild location, yet, on the beach you can see Freedom Tower and the Varrazzano Bridge. Early in the morning and at dusk deer are VERY common, so keep you eyes open. Deer can do a number on a car or truck.
If you fish until noon, there is a great restaurant, the Mule Barn Tavern, near Lot I, and great place to trade lies after a morning fishing.
If you are a non-member, please get a ticket, they are free. This way we will know you are coming and will look for you.
We can provide guidance on where and how to fish tin that area to members and non-members.
If you do not know where Parking Lot I is located, Go to the Mule Barn Tavern, from Kearney Road, turn into S Bragg Drive, follow it to Ford Road, turn right on Ford Road and the lot will be in the left.
