Empowering Student Scientists as Lifelong Advocates & Stewards
Dick Jordan is a distinguished environmental educator and conservation biologist from Boise, Idaho. He is tireless champion of Idaho’s wild public land and waters and has a renowned 45-year career as a community educator, leader and environmental activist. Dick’s major passion is to empower young student scientists through cutting edge research, guiding them as conservation advocates and earth stewards. He is currently exploring ways to apply his research model that embraces aquatic macroinvertebrates, especially mayflies, caddisflies, stoneflies and dragonflies and native fish, thereby strengthening a vital link between freshwater health and essential fishing communities.
For 35 years, Dick taught biology, chemistry, AP Biology and AP Environmental Science, primarily at Boise and Timberline High Schools. Dick has earned several prestigious honors, including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching, the Defenders of Wildlife’s Environmental Hero Award and Siemens’ National Advanced Placement Teacher Award.
Dick’s philosophy remains constant; first build a research foundation then do community outreach. He continues to prove that the very best way to protect our landscapes and waterways is to get youngsters outside and connecting them to these fragile treasures. Dick’s goal is to build intergenerational partnerships because it takes a village.
