Happy New Year! Let's start off 2026 with a strong showing for a Chili Night - chili and cornbread dinner- catch up on the winter hatches and bite, tie some flies, and discuss some of the US Forest Service efforts to fund WNC natural resources resilience efforts to the tune of $290,000,000 over the next 10 years.
Our guest speaker will be Mallory Martin who recently retired (2021) as coordinator of the Southeast Conservation Adaption Strategy (SECAS), and now leads the Southeast Landscape of the Future efforts. We'll discuss ongoing and new efforts following Hurricane Helene impacts as well as discuss the collaborative efforts with local TU chapters and conservation agencies and nonprofits to plant 7500 trees that TU National will purchase for WNC streams and rivers this spring.
Here is the blurb from the SECAS website:
"SECAS brings together public and private organizations around a bold vision for the future of our region. We're connecting the lands and waters of the Southeast and Caribbean to support healthy ecosystems, thriving fish and wildlife populations, and vibrant communities. With a data-driven spatial plan and an ambitious regional goal, SECAS helps accelerate conservation action in the places where it will make the biggest impact."
Hope to see you Thursday evening 6-8pm at the Blue Ridge Conservancy!
Shea, Tim, Corey and Joe
