Introduction to Fly Tying

The Waynesville Parks & Recreation Department is hosting instructors from the Cataloochee Chapter of Trout Unlimited to conduct an Introduction to Fly Tying Class.
Classes will meet on January 6, 8, and 13, 2026 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in Classroom B of the Waynesville Recreation Center.
On January 6th, Class 1 will cover the basic Fly Tying tools, their uses and teach students how to tie nymphs, bead head/weighted and unweighted. The featured nymph pattern students will tie and take home will be the Pat’s Rubber Legs.
On January 8th, in Class 2 students will learn how to tie streamers, bead head/weighted and unweighted. The featured streamer pattern students will tie and take home will be the Wooly Bugger.
On January 13th, in Class 3 students will learn how to tie dry flies. The Elk Hair Caddis will be the featured “tie and take” home pattern.
Registration is required and can be made at the Waynesville Recreation Center, 550 Vance Avenue Waynesville, NC. Class size is limited to 15 students. A minimum of 5 students must be registered by December 31, 2025 to conduct the class.
The classes are Free to members of either the Waynesville Recreation Center or Trout Unlimited (any Chapter). Non-member cost is $20. Classes are open to ages 16 and older although those under 18 should come with a registered adult. Students must register for all three classes.
All required equipment (vises, tools, feathers, hooks, etc) will be provided.
