The Cataloochee Chapter is partnering with the Waynesville Parks & Recreation Department to conduct two Fly Fishing classes in October 2025. Classes are limited to 15 students and cost $40 for both days.
- On October 11, Session 1 will cover with What is Fly Fishing, the essential equipment, other necessities and flies and their use. During Session 2 students will learn knot tying, casting techniques and practice fly casting.
- On October 18, Session 3 will describe trout characteristics and reading the water to find trout. Weather permitting, Session 4 will be a “put it together” experience on a local stream.
Registration is open at the Waynesville Recreation Center where classes will be held. Classes are open to all ages although it is requested that those under 18 come with an adult sponsor who has also enrolled. Students must register for both classes (all four sessions).
Students will need a North Carolina fishing license for October 18th. A 10-day NC Inland Fishing License for residents is $11 (non-residents = $28). Licenses can be obtained at a local fly shop, Walmart or on line at: https://license.gooutdoorsnorthcarolina.com/Licensing/CustomerLookup.aspx#
Students should bring wet weather gear (raincoat) to the October 18 class.
All required equipment (rods, reels, flies, waders, etc) will be provided.
