Intermediate Level Fly Tying

The Waynesville Parks & Recreation Department will host expert fly tying instructors from the Cataloochee Chapter of Trout Unlimited and conduct an Intermediate Level Fly Tying Class on three evenings in April. Intended for fly tyers with previous experience seeking practical experience with advanced tools & their uses, dubbing techniques and tying foam patterns. The class will build on previous Introduction to Fly Tying classes.
Classes will meet on April 02, 08, and 10, 2026 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in Classroom B of the Waynesville Recreation Center at 550 Vance Avenue Waynesville, NC.
On April 2nd, Class 1 will cover the advanced Fly Tying tools & techniques, their uses and teach students how to use dubbing techniques. The featured wet fly pattern students will tie and take home will be the Soft Hackle Emerger.
On April 8th, in Class 2 will have students learn how to tie with peacock, ostrich, and squirrel materials.
On April 10th, Class 3 students will learn to use foam cutters and tie foam dry fly and attractor patterns. The featured flies students will tie and take home will be Foam Ants and foam Chubby Chernobyl.
Registration is required and can be made at the Waynesville Recreation Center, 550 Vance Street Waynesville, NC. Class size is limited to 8 students. A minimum of 4 students must be registered by March 30th to conduct the class.
Students must register for all three classes. Class cost is $20 - Free to members of Trout Unlimited (any Chapter). Classes are open to ages 16 and older although those under 18 should come with a registered adult.
Students are encouraged to bring their own fly tying gear to all classes. Otherwise, required equipment (vises, tools, feathers, hooks, foam, etc) will be provided.
