Join GBTU members on a group striper fly fishing outing on Thursday, June 20th on Brewster Flats on Cape Cod.
This is a group trip of up to 5 anglers guided by Cynthia Harkness who has been fly fishing the flats and the waters around Cape Cod for over 15 years. Her business, Fearless Fly Fishing, introduces novices to the sport as well as bringing experienced anglers into her special spots to chase the noble striper.
Time to Meet: 2PM. Low tide is 4:44PM
Meeting Location: Saints Landing Beach Parking lot, Brewster, MA (see note on parking below)
Cost: $250 per person
Wader rental fee $25, if needed please purchase a wader rental in addition to the guide ticket.
Processing & service fee added at checkout
The Brewster flats are the largest tidal flats this half of the hemisphere, and they were made for walking. Stripers love this area, and while nothing is guaranteed, the fish have learned to use the underwater rivers, drop-offs and ledges to cruise the area. Leaving at the right time will put us on the right spot for fly fishing fun to striped bass. Plan on leaving crowds and traffic behind while you focus on the open sky, breaking waves and that magical tug when a striped bass hits your fly. This is a tide dependent guided trip, so plan on being out in Cape Cod Bay at dead low with the tidal experience lasting about 4 hours.
Guide Gratuity
Gratuity is not included in the ticket price and should be paid directly to Cynthia. Fearless Fly Fishing accepts gratuities over ZELLE, or cash, or check.
Stripers or Morone Saxatilis
Strong, smart, noble fish that migrate up to our Cape Cod waters from Chesapeake Bay, Delaware Bay and the Hudson River every spring. They have seven stripes and a powerful muscular tail that pushes them through the water. Clousers and sand eels are flies of choice along with crabs and shrimp patterns.
Gear
Plan on at least an 8 weight fly rod with a closed drag reel and an intermediate line as your base. Stripping basket is very helpful.
What to bring
It’s important to remember we will be in the elements. Even on hot summer days, layers are a good idea for protection from the sun. SPF50 is a good place to start. Boot foot or stocking foot waders will keep you comfortable for that long walk out to the channels. Mandatory - plan on wearing a hat, buff and sunglasses- both for protection from the sun and the flies. Fearless only takes flies out of fish, not humans! Water and a snack at your preference. Fearless will have a cooler with cold drinks and snacks to share once we get off the water.
And your salt water fishing license
