Summer on the Muskegon River is always a great time - the water is perfect for wet wading and smallmouth bass are a riot to catch on a fly rod! Join friends, supporters and fellow anglers from Schrems West Michigan Trout Unlimited for a summer fly fishing trip to the Muskegon River!

What better way to enjoy our local watersheds and make new fishing buddies than going fly fishing? No matter your skill level, join SWMTU for a laid-back evening on the water followed by a social outing at a local restaurant.

We will have mentors available to help beginner anglers with the basics, including casting techniques, fly selection, knot tying, reading the water, and wading safety. These events are kid-friendly but we recommend ages 8+ for the best experience.

Event Time: 5:00 - 8:00pm
Location: Muskegon River, Carmichael Flats? (Exact location TBA closer to event)
Fish species: Smallmouth bass
Dinner and drinks: Northern Trails Bar & Grill, 7242 E 88th St, Newaygo 49337 starting around 8:00pm

What to bring: Final instructions will be sent to registered participants. Please be sure to bring your gear, we have loaners too, a reusable water bottle, sunscreen, and bug spray.

Gear tips: We recommend bringing a 6wt, 7wt, or 8wt; floating and sinking lines will work.

NOTE: If you need to borrow a fly rod and reel, no problem - just let us know! Our passionate and skilled volunteers will be more than happy to lend a hand helping you learn where to go on the river and work on your casting and fishing skills.
