There's nothing like catching a big bronzeback river smallie on the Housatonic in August! Even better, enjoy a cold beer at Housatonic River Brewing after the fishing is done in their outdoor beer garden!
If you've never caught this strong, aggressive fish, now's your chance to learn where and how to fish for these great fish on a fly rod!
Our chapter volunteers will help you with fly selection and tactics - we can even lend you a fly rod and other gear if you need to borrow it - we recommend streamers and a 5, 6 or 7-weight fly rod. Spin fishing is allowed on this section of river, though the state encourages catch and release fishing.
The fishing is great for families, especially younger children new to fishing who will enjoy wet-wading the warm waters, splashing around and chasing large crayfish in the shallows when not casting. (Note: The brewery does not allow anyone under 21 inside the building or beer garden.)
This trip is free and open to the public. Members are encouraged to invite friends, fishing buddies and guests to attend.
