Fishing Friday: Sunset Striped Bass in Westport

Everyone is welcome to join Mianus TU on Friday evening Sept, 3 at 7:00 PM to wade fish the outlet of Gray's Creek and the Saugatuck River in Westport in search of striped bass and bluefish. Anglers of all skill levels are welcome. 

This time of year fishing is best in the evening and deep into the night. We will fish the last few hours of incoming tide, high tide and the start of outgoing tide into the dark - came and go whenever you can.

Wading conditions range from walking on a grassy marsh to wading waist-deep around slippery cobble You can fish wherever you are comfortable. Bring a headlamp if you have one, or make sure your cell phone is fully charged for the flashlight feature!

Time: Meet at 7:00 PM at Parking Lot E at Longshore in Westport. We will provide an overview of the creek and how to fish it. Fish as little or as long as you like. We will stick together out there.

Fly Tackle: 7-9 Wt rods with floating lines.  Approx. 7 ft. leaders tapering to around 15 lb test.  Standard saltwater flies like deceivers, clousers, epoxy flies, etc. work fine. Consider some high floating patterns for after dark like crease flies and gurglers.

Other Gear needed: Waders with wading belt, headlamp, pliers (needle nose with cutters work fine). Carry a water bottle with you.

Optional but helpful gear: Wading staff, stripping basket, Boga grip, rain top.
