Join us at the Lapham Community Center in New Canaan to learn about 'Big Apple Brook Trout' - Trout Unlimited's community science initiative to use environmental DNA and other science tools to assess the health and population of native brook trout within 50 miles of New York City across Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and out through Long Island. This project is supported by TU's Embrace A Stream grant program, The Camp Fire Club of America Conservation Fund and the The National Genomics Center for Wildlife and Fish Conservation at the USDA and U.S. Forest Service.
These meetings are free and open to all whether you're a member or not! - Feel free to bring friends, colleagues, and family members. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. with refreshments and networking. The presentations typically start at around 7:30 p.m. following brief remarks and updates from the chapter.
To date, Trout Unlimited volunteers have taken over 100 eDNA samples confirming or discovering native brook trout populations for the first time. Stop by to learn about this exciting project, where we're looking and why and ways to get involved with this exciting project!
Due to ongoing renovations at the Waveny Mansion, this year's chapter meetings are being held at the Lapham Center on the other side of Waveny Park next to the Benko Pool. Best access is off Lapham Rd!
