When: June 10th 930am - 2pm, meeting at the Tubes parking lot in La Pine State Park.
Where: We will be meeting at the Tubes parking lot in La Pine State Park (directions below). Our work sites will be upstream of The Tubes.
Why: This section of the Fall River has important habitats for a variety of fish and wildlife. This section is also an immensely popular place for anglers of all levels. We are partnering with La Pine State Park to conserve fish and wildlife habitat by reinforcing trails for anglers to reach the river, while closing excessive spur trails that disrupt and disturb plants and wildlife. By fixing and reducing our impacts along the stream, we can improve habitat for fish and wildlife.
Details: This project will aim to conserve vegetation that provides cover and nutrients for fish and wildlife, while working to improve water quality for both fish and people. We want to allow anglers to continue to access the river in a safe and caring way so that these places can continue to be fished for generations. We will be improving our recreational experiences by reinforcing trail edges, adding steps, covering redundant trails, and touching up past projects. We welcome input from those of you who are experienced in fishing these waters, so we don’t disrupt your favorite casting location!
We will gather at The Tubes parking lot for a quick orientation and then we will travel to our first site together. We will receive a quick project tour, dive into some stewardship activities, and take a lunch break along the way. We will wrap up by 2pm at our work site.
If you are interested in joining us, please complete this registration for the day to support our planning, as we have limited space for this volunteer project. TU staff will follow up with any updates or additional details needed.
Directions: From Sunriver, head south on S Century Dr (3.1 mi). Turn right to stay on S Century Dr (5.0 mi). Turn left onto W Deschutes River Rd/W River Rd. This last .8 miles will be on a dirt road and will be slow. You will travel .8 miles until you reach a bridge over the Fall River, and we will meet you to guide you into a good parking area. There is a bathroom and limited room for parking.
