Help us restore a healthy riparian buffer along the Rippowam in Stamford!
We're inviting members of the Stamford community to help us restore the Rippowam River at the Finch Flood Plain. Our volunteers have been hard at work removing non-native species in preparation for this Earth Day planting project!
We'll be planting a mix of hardwood trees like sycamore, tulip, swamp white oak, river birch and shrubs like willows, red-osier dogwood, black chokeberry and more right along the river.
These plants will help restore a natural riparian buffer to help filter stormwater runoff and reduce erosion on the Rippowam River as well as create important habitat for fish, wildlife and pollinator species.
Join us on Saturday, April 18th at 10 am at the Buckingham Drive Access and we'll get started from there! We'll provide all the tools and equipment you'll need.
This project is funded by CT DEEP's Urban and Community Forest Natural Areas and Riparian Corridors grant program.
